What the civil service recruitment exams are, how they are structured per scale, and how to prepare online.
The Cyprus Government Exams — officially the “Examinations for Recruitment to the Public Service” (EPD) — are the written exams for appointment to positions in the Cyprus public and wider public sector. They are organised by the Examinations Service of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, with a separate examination per salary scale.
Separate exams are held for positions with an initial scale up to A7 (A2-A5-A7), up to A8, and for A9–A11. They assess Verbal Ability and Abstract/Deductive and Numerical (Quantitative) Ability — indicatively, for scale A8, Part 1 (Verbal) lasts 40 minutes and Part 2 lasts 50 minutes. For scales A9–A11, an assessment of situations and work scenarios is added.
According to the latest official announcements, a candidate passes with an overall score of at least 50% and at least 40% in each part. Successful candidates receive a certificate of success with a defined validity period.
Applications are submitted electronically through the “Ariadni” government portal, during the periods set by each cycle’s official announcement. For official dates, syllabus and participation fees, consult the Examinations Service website (epd.moec.gov.cy).
