A 12-Week Preparation Plan for the Cyprus Government Exams

Twelve weeks is enough to turn a mediocre starting score into a consistent result above the pass mark — provided the practice is structured rather than random. The plan below splits into three phases and adapts to any scale (A2–A7, A8, A9–A11).

Weeks 1–2: Diagnosis

  • Take one full timed test in each ability (verbal, numerical, deductive, abstract) without studying first.
  • Record per section: score, questions you didn't reach, and question types that slowed you down.
  • Rank the four abilities from weakest to strongest — that is the priority order for the coming weeks.

Weeks 3–8: Targeted practice per ability

  • Spend 1.5 weeks on each ability, starting with the weakest.
  • Work in short daily sessions (20–30 minutes) instead of weekend marathons — frequency builds speed.
  • Read the worked solution even for correct answers: there is often a faster route than the one you took.
  • Close each week with a timed test in the ability you worked on, so you can see the progress curve.

Weeks 9–12: Simulations

  • Switch to mixed tests that alternate reasoning types — like Part 2 of the A8 exam.
  • One full simulation per week, under real timing and without interruptions.
  • In the final two weeks, learn nothing new — consolidate speed and accuracy on what you already know.
  • In the last week, sort the practicalities too: route to the exam centre, documents, sleep.

Frequently asked questions

What if I have less than 12 weeks?

Compress the middle phase: keep the diagnostic stage (even 3–4 days), spend half your available time on the two weakest abilities, and always finish with at least two full simulations.

How many hours per week are needed?

Five to seven hours in daily sessions suffice for most cases. Consistency pays more than total volume.
