Similar technologies such as local storage, session storage, and pixel tags may also be used for similar purposes. In this policy, we refer to all such technologies collectively as 'cookies'.

Strictly necessary cookies: These cookies are essential for the platform to function and cannot be switched off. They include authentication tokens (to keep you logged in), session identifiers (to maintain your session state securely), and security cookies (to protect against cross-site request forgery). They also include the cookies set by Cloudflare Turnstile, the bot-protection check on our sign-up, login and password-reset forms. Without these cookies, core features of the platform would not work.

Preference cookies: We use preference cookies to remember your choices and personalise your experience. These include your language preference (English or Greek) stored in localStorage, your theme preference (light or dark mode) stored in localStorage, and your cookie consent choice itself.

Analytics cookies: With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4, loaded via Google Tag Manager, to understand how visitors and learners use the platform — for example, which pages are viewed, how quizzes are completed, and which features are used. Analytics cookies are set only if you accept them in the cookie consent banner; if you decline, no analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is collected about your visit.

Session analytics and heatmaps (Microsoft Clarity): Covered by the same analytics consent, we use Microsoft Clarity to build heatmaps and anonymised session replays that show us where visitors click, how far they scroll, and where they get stuck. Clarity sets the _clck and _clsk cookies. Its script is loaded only after you accept analytics cookies — if you decline, it is never loaded and no replay is recorded. Quiz questions, reading passages, answer options and your own answers are masked in your browser before anything is sent, so exam content and your responses never leave your device. Microsoft acts as a processor for this data on our behalf.

Marketing cookies: With your separate consent, we use Google Ads and related remarketing cookies to measure the performance of our advertising campaigns and to improve how we reach prospective learners. Marketing cookies are set only if you accept them in the cookie consent banner.

Support chat cookies: Our live chat is provided by tawk.to, and it sets its own cookies to keep your conversation going across pages and visits so you do not have to repeat yourself. On our public pages the chat button is shown to everyone, so the tawk.to script loads with the page. Once you are signed in it does not: chat lives on the Support page, and the script loads only when you open it, unless you switch the chat button back on in Settings. We treat live chat as a support feature of the service rather than an analytics or marketing one, so it is not switched by the consent banner; if you would rather it did not run at all, you can block third-party cookies or the tawk.to domain in your browser settings.

Cookie consent banner: When you first visit Kyvernitikos, you will see a cookie consent banner where you can 'Accept all' (grants analytics and marketing consent) or open 'Customize'. Inside Customize you can switch Analytics and Marketing cookies on or off independently, 'Reject all' to keep both off, or save your selection. Strictly necessary cookies are always on, as they are required for the platform to work.

Changing or withdrawing your consent: You can change your choice at any time using the 'Cookie settings' link, available in the site footer and on this page, which reopens the consent banner so you can update or withdraw your consent for analytics and marketing cookies.

Browser settings: Most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically set your browser to refuse cookies, accept only certain types, or be notified when a cookie is set. However, blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent you from logging in or using core platform features. Please consult your browser's help documentation for instructions on managing cookies.

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we introduce new features that require additional cookies. We will notify you of material changes by updating the 'Last updated' date and, where appropriate, via the cookie consent banner.
