How the Cyprus Government Exams Are Scored

Scoring in the Cyprus Government Exams has three elements every candidate should understand before exam day: the pass mark, how scores are computed, and what exactly a successful candidate earns. The summary below states the general rule — each cycle's official announcement remains the binding source.
The pass mark: 50% overall, 40% per part
A candidate passes with an overall score of at least 50% and, at the same time, at least 40% in each part. The double condition means a strong average is not enough: one very weak section can sink an otherwise successful attempt — which is why preparation must cover all abilities, not just your favourites.
Statistical processing and ranked lists
Scores undergo statistical processing and are published to three decimal places. Successful candidates are ranked in lists by performance — and since appointments are made from those lists, your rank matters in practice: the higher you place, the better your chances when positions are announced.
The certificate of success
Passing grants a certificate that lets you apply for the positions announced within its validity period — as a rule, the following calendar year's announcements (1 January to 31 December). If you are not appointed within the period, you need to participate again in a future cycle.
Frequently asked questions
Is there negative marking for wrong answers?
The marking method is defined in each cycle's official announcement and candidate instructions. Either way, the right strategy remains: answer everything you can reach with the greatest possible accuracy.
If I pass, am I appointed automatically?
No — passing gives you the right to be a candidate for announced positions. Appointment goes through each announcement's procedure (e.g. via the Public Service Commission).
Does my score matter in the final selection?
Ranking in the lists is by performance, so a higher score materially improves your chances — the goal is not merely the pass mark.
